The Infertility Research Trust
The Infertility Research Trust (IRT) was set up in 1982 as a charity to support research in Reproductive Medicine in general and infertility in particular. The IRT was initially established within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Sheffield and went on to manage two clinics, the Donor Insemination Clinic and the Sheffield Fertility Centre (an IVF clinic) providing infertility treatment locally. Although these clinics are no longer associated with the IRT, theTtrustees of the Charity continue to make funds available for research in reproductive medicine.
The current Trustees are Prof. I.D. Cooke (retired), Dr E. A. Lenton, Mr. C. Moore, Dr F.W. Wright, Dr G. Lockwood and Mr. D. Rogers.
Funding provided
The purpose of the funding is to promote research and training in the field of infertility in the human. Funding is provided to support PhD students, to assist with the travel costs of visiting fellows and research scientists to specific laboratories for training or to participate in a collaborative project. Funding or shared-funding may also be considered for other developmental projects where there is clear potential benefit to the infertile patient. All project applications are considered on relevance and on merit so if in doubt please submit an outline proposal (two sides of A4) in the first instance.

Applications for PhD support are considered for October starts and must be received four months in advance (i.e. by June 1st each year). Applications for travel scholarships and for other projects may be made at any time and will be considered in rotation. Completed applications should be submitted as three paper copies, and sent to:
